There is No Holiday From Career Management

There is No Holiday From Career Management There is a misnomer out there that hiring halts on November 30th each year, and those in decision making capacity then take the month off. This is a complete fallacy. Good career management involves being sensitive to the market and opportunities within your segment 24/7/365. Holiday opportunities Okay, lets change that to 24/7/364; well give you one day off to observe your holiday. However, during that one day, keep in mind that you may have the opportunity to meet with many people you dont normally see. Surprise, surprise! One of those people could generate valuable career leads or could even be your next boss. Be ready to have an impromptu but professional discussion about your business and career goals at any time. Year-end career management As another year transitions, review how your career improved in 2015. What did you learn? What did you gain? What value did you bring to your employer? How did your job change from January to December? What did you do, and what will you be remembered for? Have you given some thought to where you want to be in 2016, 2017 and beyond? Dont be shy in sharing this career direction with your boss and your peers. No matter the time of the year, there is no holiday from career management. You take the reins; you plan your direction; you steer your way. You dont have to be overt or aggressive about it, but do show your ambition. Dont be shy in tooting your own horn, either. The louder the music, the more will hear. Please link to the Dec 21st ER post, Setting Your Personal Branding Goals For 2016
